I started to form this letter in my head on the way to a volleyball tournament. A tournament you were not scheduled to attend but because of who you are and how hard you worked - got asked to go. Here it goes...
I use the word "my" when I may not have the right. I didn't carry you and I didn't give birth to you. However, I still feel like you are mine. That being said - there are a few things I want you to know.
1. You are the sunshine in my world. You make me laugh in the best of times...and in the not so best of times. You have this effect on everyone around you. People love to be with you. Your smile is infectious...it always has been. Your ability to laugh at yourself amazes me and is something every young woman should learn to do.
2. You are the kind of loving and caring person that makes both of your mothers proud. Your heart is bigger than most and you are not afraid to show it. You love without bound and you trust to no end...that makes you a friend everyone wants to have.
3. You are stronger than you know. Yes - people are mean and life sucks -but you are starting to learn how to deal with it all with poise, style and grace. It makes me proud to see how you handle the many challenges you have to face.
4. You are beautiful -inside and out. You joke about how you look and that breaks my heart. I know, we all joke about how we look, but you, my daughter, are perfect. From your curly hair to your stinky feet - you are PERFECT. I hope remember that until I'm not here to remind you.
5. You have a good head on your shoulders. You know what you want and what you don't want. You know what to say and when to say it. You have a plan for your life and how you want to live it that simply amazes me.
6. You work hard. Period. You understand that hard work is how you get what you want and there are no short cuts. You throw yourself into everything you do. You understand that there may be someone better at something, but you are honest and do YOUR best and put in your best effort.
7. I can't wait to see the young woman you are going to become. If the last few years are any indication- it is going to be a fantastic journey; one I am thankful I get to share with you.
8. You make me proud. I know your father feels the same way but you are the daughter that all parents want to have. You make being a parent easy. That isn't a fair standard to set for your brothers. :) It makes my heart soar to hear other parents commend you, whether for something you have done, something you have said or just for being you. You have also made my transition into this family an easy one and for that I say thank you.
I pray every day that I am a good example for you. I hope you continue to grow into the smart, talented, funny young woman I know you can and will be. Thank you dear for being you. Love you with all my heart. :)
Love,
Mom #2
